How to collect and send a sample to our laboratory
The sample collection and return processes depend on the type of testing ordered by your provider. Some samples can be collected at home, while others must be collected in a clinic or sent from a different laboratory. Variantyx accepts blood and saliva samples for our Genomic Unity® tests. We also accept genomic DNA (gDNA) samples from other laboratories.
When possible, we recommend that samples are collected at the ordering provider’s office. If you are unable to collect a sample during the office visit or are seeing the provider virtually, Variantyx can mail saliva, assisted saliva, and blood kits directly to your home. Mobile phlebotomy is available in certain areas of the US. Please contact our Clinical Coordination team directly at 617-209-2090 for more information.
How to collect a saliva sample
The kit mailed by Variantyx includes written instructions for how to collect the sample, along with a link to the appropriate instructional video. Videos are available for saliva, saliva swab and assisted saliva kits.Returning a sample for US customers
Every saliva and blood kit sent domestically will include a pre-paid return label to Variantyx. Please review the label on your kit(s) to determine what service to use to return the kit. For any questions about returning a sample, please contact our Clinical Coordination team directly at 617-209-2090.Saliva and blood samples should be shipped immediately after being collected. Saliva samples can be kept at room temperature for no more than 7 days before shipment. Blood samples can be refrigerated for no more than 7 days before shipment. Blood samples should never be frozen.
Shipping samples for international customers
For international customers, we provide instructions for sample collection. International customers are responsible for arranging sample collection through their provider. They are also responsible for arranging shipment, including all fees associated with sending the samples to Variantyx. Please contact our Customer Service team if you need assistance with shipping. -
IriSight® CNV Analysis and IriSight® Comprehensive Analysis – Prenatal accepts direct amniotic fluid, cultured cells, products of conception, tissue biopsy, and fetal genomic DNA (gDNA) that has been extracted from another CLIA/CAP certified laboratory.
A blood sample from the biological mother and the biological father are required to complete a trio analysis for IriSight® CNV Analysis and IriSight® Comprehensive Analysis – Prenatal. When possible, we recommend that samples are collected at the ordering provider’s office. If you are unable to collect a sample during the office visit or are seeing the provider virtually, Variantyx can mail blood kits directly to your home.
