Senior Assay Development Scientist

Variantyx is growing the assay development team that will work to explore and introduce new technologies and approaches for our clinical testing lab. The company has established a CLIA/CAP laboratory delivering high quality WGS-based clinical tests in the germline, reproductive, and oncology fields. The Senior Assay Development Scientist will develop the molecular biology components of our clinical workflow on multiple biomolecules (DNA, RNA, cfDNA/RNA, proteins) and various tissue types. 

The ideal candidate will have experience developing clinical NGS assays with a wide range of life sciences and industrial automation hardware, and experience choosing the right tool for the job at hand. Clinical assay volumes are growing rapidly and Variantyx is investing in a highly automated process. 

Responsibilities 

  • Explore novel approaches to commercial testing needs; improve stability, reduce failures, introduce novel technologies 
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments in proof of concept mode
  • Contribute to design of right-sized validation experiments for clinical tests
  • Work with the clinical production team to transfer and train new processes 

Qualifications 

  • PhD / MS in a biological field (genetics, molecular cellular biology, biochemistry, similar)
  • Industrial experience (>5 years) in a product development environment
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing assay proof of concept
  • Demonstrated experience and deep understanding of NGS chemistry and applications
  • Experience leading small technical molecular biology teams desired, but not required
  • Excellent communication and computational skills
